C.S. 路易斯（1898—1963），是20世紀英國一位具有多方面天才的作家。他26歲即登牛津大學教席，被當代人譽為「最偉大的牛津人」。1954年他被劍橋大學聘為中世紀及文藝復興時期英語文學教授，這個頭銜保持到他退休。
他在一生中，完成了三類很不相同的事業。傑出的牛津劍橋大學文學史家和批評家，代表作包括《牛津英國文學史 •16世紀卷》。基督教神學家和演說家，代表作包括《四種愛》、《返璞歸真》、《天路回歸》、《地獄來信》等等。
